“But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.’” Luke 2:10-11
“Keep Christ in Christmas,” my pastor reminded our MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group as he delivered the Christmas message.
Preparation has been a top priority for me this Christmas season. Our tree was up early, along with lights and decorations scattered throughout the house. Presents are wrapped, and food for Christmas dinner is pre-purchased. I helped the kids make a gingerbread house, which, by the way, fell down. I may be lacking in gingerbread architectural skills, but nonetheless, gingerbread house is checked off my list. Christmas caroling is planned and we will be making cookies soon. After a final glance at my list, I thought, “It is complete.”
Then I heard my pastor speak the words, “Keep Christ in Christmas.” This beautiful Truth rang in my heart, and I knew what was missing on my list. The only thing that makes Christmas complete is Jesus!
All the extras are good and fun. But what is the heart of Christmas?
Let me share what I think Christmas is about. It’s celebrating and rejoicing in the birth of our Savior. Without Jesus, we wouldn’t have cause to rejoice as the Angel said in Luke 2:10.
The deep joy experienced when celebrating Christmas becomes shallow without Christ. But when Jesus is the reason for the season, we have reason to celebrate! There is great Joy in knowing the Savior has come.
Due to God’s great love, He sent His Son to die on the cross satisfying the payment for sin. In Christ, we are redeemed from sin and have hope of life in Christ now and eternally.
Jesus made a way for Salvation to all those who believe in Him and call out to Him. We all need Him. We’ve all sinned. The Bible says, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13
If you have nothing else to rejoice in this Christmas, I hope to bless you with this one Truth that makes Christmas complete. Jesus loves you! Have a very Merry Christmas and, “Keep Christ in Christmas!” as we rejoice and celebrate His birth.
“That if you confess with your mouth,’ Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10
