With the start of the year we all have new hopes and dreams. We have goals of saving more money, spending more time with family, working out, paying of debt ect. The list goes on and on. Before you start your list for the new year, let’s start with finding hope in Him!
A few years ago on New Year’s, Pastor John Lindell at James River Church preached a message about finding hope in the new year. We all have hope for great things to come, but if we don’t put hope in God first we can’t accomplish what our purpose is in life. His message was so good I just had to share!
In this message, Pastor Lindell shares an encouraging word on what we can expect from the upcoming year. When we understand how big and miraculous God is, we know we can be filled with hope when looking forward to 2018.
Here are a few steps in finding hope for the new year:
1. Understand how big God is.
“To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?” ask the Holy One. Look up into the heavens. Who created the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of His great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.” Isaiah 40:25-26
2. Even though God is so big he is very interested in you and your situation. One of the devil’s favorite lies he tells us is to make you believe you aren’t worthy! But you are so worthy!
“You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.” Psalm 139:2-4
3. Remember what you know about God.
“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.” Isaiah 40:28
4. God can miraculously strengthen you!
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” Isaiah 40:29
5. If we look to God with anticipation we will receive supernatural strength.
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31
Something we have to stop saying to ourselves is that we can’t do it. At some point you have to stop being downcast on yourself about your hope in God. Don’t have doubt. Learn to wait on God and watch what happens. Believe in God and you will never be alone in your situation. He wants to comfort you and help you!
We pray you find the hope and encouragement in 2018!
