Have you ever disciplined your child for something you fail to do yourself? For example have your kids gotten in trouble for yelling at their siblings, when you may have yelled at them the night before? Have they been told they spend too much time on their phones, but you yourself are constantly scrolling through social media? Have you had to tell them to stop watching TV, but you continue to watch your favorite shows? Have you scolded them for interrupting you, but you don’t allow them to finish their sentence?
What if we practiced what we preached? What if we quietened our tone while disciplining them? What if we put our phones down and turned the TV off until the kids were off to bed? What if we let them explain why they were arguing with their siblings and really listened to them?
Kids are the future of the world. What we say to them now becomes their inner voice when they are older. Are you encouraging them by your words and actions? Are you practicing what you preach? Do you want your kids to mirror your behavior?
Let’s speak life into these precious little angels. Let’s raise them up to be the voice of reason. Let’s lead them by our example.
Proverbs 29:15 tells us to start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will turn from it.
