As your children walk through their home and look at the photos displayed in frames on their walls, turn pages through the albums sitting on book shelves, and flip through the loose leaf prints you have stuck away in a shoebox, what are they going to see?
I can almost guarantee they will see themselves mirrored on photos with genuine smiles and laughs, hugging their siblings, climbing on Dad, spending time with Grandma and Grandpa, playing with toys, making silly faces while wearing silly clothes, these are amazing moments, and by capturing them, you get to help turn them into memories. What tends to be missing from all of these photos though, are the photos of your children with YOU!
As a photographer some of the saddest words I hear from Momma’s are:
- “I want to schedule photo’s, but I need to lose 15lbs first”
- “Can you hide me in the back of the photo, I don’t want to be seen”
- “I love all of the photo’s, except the ones that have me in them” “
- Can you photoshop out my wrinkles and make me thinner?”
Momma’s, you are beautiful exactly how you are, the way that God made you look! Be easy on yourself, and use some of that grace that you so freely give to those around you to yourself!
You grew a human, you are raising a family, you go to work everyday to provide for your family, you stay home to care for your children, you are a mother, a wife, a daughter, a chef, a taxi driver, a house keeper, a hair stylist, a manager, a financial adviser, and so many other things. And guess what…. your family loves you, 15 extra pounds and all.
Your children want to look at these photos so beautifully and carefully placed in your home, and they want to remember the love that their mother shown to them through the years, they want to remember how small they were in your arms, they want to remember how in love you were with their Daddy, how happy you were that your family was growing. Momma you have the opportunity to show your children self-confidence and self-love.
Be in the photos and hang them proudly on your walls!
