Kid’s names and ages: Gillian (12), Riley (10) and Paxon (5)
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Southwest Missouri?
I’m from NW Arkansas. My family relocated to Springfield when I was a sophomore in high school (Kickapoo). I finished HS and college in Springfield. My husband and I later moved away for five years to (Oahu Hawaii, Scottsdale AZ, then back to Kauai Hawaii). We’ve finally settled back home in Springfield near family and our business.
What is your favorite family activity in SWMO?
Our favorite family activity is to spend time on our boat at Table Rock Lake. We deeply enjoy watching the kids grow and learn near the water and although it’s not a Hawaiian beach, it’s still great to be near such a beautiful lake.
What is your favorite thing to do with friends in SWMO?
I actually work with most of my closest friends and I do love my work. My favorite thing to do with my friends is to strategize business models, and evolve our company (Little Sunshine’s Playhouse) nationally. It’s very fulfilling to work with such amazing friends.
I know for sure a hot tub would be involved, if it could be overlooking Lanikai Beach (Oahu Hawaii) that would be pretty perfect.
Describe your typical day.
That’s difficult. There are no two days alike. My mornings usually start the same. I love to make my kids breakfast. I want them to remember that when they grow up. Sometimes it’s pancakes, smoothies, french toast, bacon, and sometimes simple things like cereal or toast; but we almost always start the day with spending that time in the kitchen together before school (even though I do cheat sometimes with pre-prepped meals from our chef). Beyond that, it’s more difficult to pin down. Sometimes I’m in my home office working through a to-do list, other days we’re working remotely from any given place in the country (we have schools in many states), and part of the year we stay in Hawaii and can handle life tasks from there. Boating, beach time, golf with my husband, personal travel, corporate travel, and kids activities randomly take hold of the majority of my remaining time, depending upon where we happen to be.
What is the most enjoyable thing about being a mother?
Cuddles! I’m going to miss those sweet cuddles when my youngest has passed through that age. There’s nothing better than those tender moments.
What is the most challenging part of being a mother?
The transition from the sweetness of a toddler through the phases of more independence of a pre-teen. It seems to happen over-night and it can be quite crushing and freeing at the same time. A wide range of emotions occurs on both sides, as my daughter is becoming a teenager. That has pushed our entire family into new adjustments as we transition into a new phase of parenthood.
My boys are jokesters. They are 5 and 10 years old. I thought it was so cute recently when they were doing “yo mamma” jokes but in reverse…so not to talk bad about their mom. “Your mom is so pretty she….”. They were funny but sweet at the same time. I was surprised Paxon (5 years) was able to cognitively follow what Riley (10 years) was trying to accomplish with reverse yo mamma jokes. It was a precious moment, and very funny!
What is your number one tip for keeping your house clean (or “cleanish”)?
I’m not going to lie…I would not survive without really frequent home cleaning services. We have a professional organizer, a chef, and a cleaner. There’s a lot that get’s fit into a day, and I can’t compromise when it’s comes to things being in order. That order sets the tone for my daily accomplishments, so to me it’s critical. I enlist the help of professionals.
How do you relax at the end of the day?
My husband and I occasionally get into Netflix marathons…find a new show we love and watch a new episode each evening. It’s our time to have a glass of wine, and some ice cream and unwind a bit. It’s the only way I can really shut my brain off from my own world.
What’s something your friends might not know about you?
My friends know almost everything about me. I value loyalty. I love being a mom and wife. I love Hawaii. I’m very determined professionally. I’m a risk taker in business and very adventurous. I love a great iced tea and any kind of sweet treats. I’m a pretty open-book; what you see is what you get.
