Kid’s names and ages: Hadlie, 4
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Southwest Missouri?
We moved to SWMO when I was 3 years old (1991) from Berryville, Arkansas. Most of my childhood was spent on 40 acres in Eagle Rock, Missouri. Once my sister and I started driving, my parents decided it was best to move to town so we didn’t have to drive the curvy roads between Cassville and Eagle Rock. I lived in Cassville until my husband, Ryan, and I moved to Monett in April of last year. We moved to Monett because he took a job as a youth pastor at New Site Baptist Church. We wanted to be in the same community as our church congregation.
What is your favorite family activity in SWMO?
We love going to Silver Dollar City. We get season passes and try to go when we have free time on the weekends. We also have a very large garden and we all three enjoy working in the garden. Almost as much as we enjoy eating the food we grow!
What is your favorite thing to do with friends in SWMO?
We love going out to eat and trying new restaurants. SWMO is full of little hole in the wall places with amazing food!
If you could have an entire day to yourself, how would you spend it?
I would wake up, workout and enjoy a big cup of coffee! I would spend some time getting pampered at a salon. I’m sure ice cream would find its way in there as well! I would have to end it with some quality time with my daughter and husband!
Describe your typical day.
I am usually the first one to wake up at our house. I get myself ready then get our daughter ready. Thankfully, we are both morning people, so that’s a pretty easy task! I go to work at Mercy in either Springfield or Monett–just depends on the day. At Mercy, I support the electronic health record software. The best part of my day is getting to pick up Hadlie from daycare! We come home and I try to do a quick workout, fix dinner, play for just a bit and by then it’s usually bath and bed time! The nights go by way too quickly!
Hadlie is quite the sassy character and has so much personality! We never know what is going to come out of her mouth! She entertains us daily. I love our conversations and dance parties! It’s the little things every day that make motherhood the greatest job in the world. I love watching her grow and learn.
What is the most challenging part of being a mother?
As a parent, you are responsible for this innocent little human. If I think about it too much, it is quite overwhelming.
What is the last thing she has done to make you laugh?
My mother bought me a book when I was pregnant called “My Quotable Kid.” You write down all the funny or sweet things your kids say that you don’t want to forget. The last entry was a conversation we had one night when Hadlie wanted some candy.
“Mom, do you know why Buddy the Elf was so smart”?
“I have no idea. Why”?
“Because he ate lots of smarties when he was a little boy.”
Nice try kiddo.
What is your number one tip for keeping your house clean (or “cleanish”)?
Oh my. I am a bit O.C.D. in this area. Honestly, having a child has helped me loosen up a bit. Trying to constantly keep a tidy house with a child is enough to make a person go insane! My tip would be do the best you can. Do a little each day, but when dance parties or wrestling matches interrupt, those are more important!
How do you relax at the end of the day?
Once our daughter is asleep, Ryan and I like to relax by watching our favorite series on Netflix. Currently, we are watching White Collar. So good!
I don’t like my food to touch. Weird. I know! Whoever invited plates with sections was a genius!
One word to sum me up:
