Where are you from and how long have you lived in Southwest Missouri?
I live in Aurora and have since I was 5 years old. My husband Chris has been here all his life.
What is your favorite family activity in SWMO?
Our family likes to get together for BBQ’s, go to Roaring River and Silver Dollar City when we get the chance. We have a large family so we are always on the go trying to spend as much time together as we can.
We like having date night dinners & movies, having bonfires in the fall and we recently discovered Clue Pursuit in Springfield. It was a blast and we can’t wait to do it again.
If you could have an entire day to yourself, how would you spend it?
Oh man, a day to myself. What is that exactly? Just kidding. I would love to spend an entire day at the spa with some girlfriends, then enjoy dinner and a movie. It would end with me coming home to a wonderfully clean house and all the laundry done.
Describe your typical day.
A typical day varies. I get up, get kids ready for school and drop them off. Then I come back home and try to convince Mylee to eat something other than yogurt for breakfast. Then I try to balance housework, homework, playing, making lunch, preparing dinner, helping with the kids’ homework, going to Noah’s football games, if he has one that night. I also squeeze in appointments and meetings for my Mary Kay business. Tuesday’s and Thursdays are a little different because I go to school at Ozarks Technical Community College along with the previous activities mentioned.
I love seeing them smile and laugh. I also really enjoy seeing them love and protect each other. It feels good to know that they will always be there for one another. I’m also excited to see who they will grow up to be.
What is the most challenging part of being a mother?
I think the most challenging would have to be knowing that you can’t be a parent and a friend at the same time. Sometimes you have to make really hard decisions that aren’t popular with your child or outside parties. Children need boundaries and rules. As parents, that is part of our job and it can be tough.
Our daughter has quite the personality and is way too independent. She recently told her dad to, “Get out my house.” It was absolutely hilarious. She comes up with some crazy things.
What is your number one tip for keeping your house clean (or “cleanish”)?
Do a little each day and then it doesn’t pile up. It’s also important to realize that it’s okay if everything isn’t perfect all the time.
How do you relax at the end of the day?
After the kids go to bed my husband and I like to watch a show on Netflix and just talk about our day.
What’s something your friends might not know about you?
I like to play Call of Duty on the Xbox with my husband occasionally. It’s fun to not have to “think” and be serious all the time.
One word to sum me up: Blessed
