Kid’s names and ages: Kason (4), Dalton (2 ½), and Meadow (8 months)
Where are you from and how long have you lived in Southwest Missouri? I was born and raised in Nashville, TN, but moved to Missouri to attend Evangel University in the fall of 2002. I met my husband Ben my last semester of college, and after we got married in 2006 we moved to Ozark and have lived here ever since!
What is your favorite family activity in SWMO? The two most requested places by our boys are Silver Dollar City and Incredible Pizza – we go to both often!
What is your favorite thing to do with friends in SWMO? We have a church life group that meets every Sunday at our house (during the school year), and just doing life with them is one of the highlights of my week.
If you could have an entire day to yourself, how would you spend it? I would probably browse local garage sales and/or antique shops, have a leisurely lunch at Spring Creek Tea Room with a friend, and then take a nap!!
Describe your typical day. A TORNADO. ☺ But really, life with three kids four and under is never boring, and no two days look alike! I am blessed to be able to spend the majority of my time with our joys since my other two jobs (licensed counselor and BoomBox Kids) are flexible and I can do most of the work from home.
What is the most enjoyable thing about being a mother? Having a front row seat to watch these tiny humans develop and discover their personalities, likes/dislikes, and innate strengths. And to think, I have the honor and amazing responsibility to help raise them? Incredible.
What is the most challenging part of being a mother? Wondering every day “am I even doing this whole parenting thing right?!” Then just faking it till you make it, like all parents do. In our house, our parenting motto is “alive and thrive” – anything beyond that is a bonus!
How did you get the idea for BoomBox Kids? When my oldest son was 2 years old, we were driving down the road and I realized that while he loved songs from Disney, Yo Gabba Gabba, and Veggie Tales, (all good songs) he didn’t know the classic “Sunday School” songs that I grew up with…this needed to be fixed! As we rode along I started singing the original “Jesus Loves Me,” and he so kindly responded with “no thank you, Mama.” (Quite the music critic at age two.) So naturally I did what any Mom would do, I rapped the song…he LOVED it and started clapping along! Immediately I went home and looked online for an album of re-mixed Sunday School songs, because I was sure this had already been done, but it did not exist. I reached out to my Dad in Nashville, and through his contacts in the music industry, and many encounters that could ONLY be orchestrated by God, we began the journey of creating the BoomBox Kids.
How would you describe BoomBox kids to someone that may have not heard of it? BoomBox Kids Volume 1 is an album of re-mixed “Sunday School” songs from our youth – most people will instantly recognize the choruses yet each song has a new sound. You can check it out at www.boomboxkidsclub.com! Also on our website are lyric videos, coloring pages, fun lyric tees, and the story of how our main characters (Max & Mia) became the BoomBox Kids.
What is the last thing your kid/kids have done to make you laugh? Oh my goodness, they make me laugh SO much! Recently my husband and I were randomly talking about the type of guy we hope our daughter will marry, and Kason overheard this and very seriously said “guys…she’s just a BABY.” We had to stifle our laughter because we knew he was just being the protective big brother, not ready to marry his baby sister off just yet! haha
What is your number one tip for keeping your house clean (or “cleanish”)? As the saying goes, “cleaning your house with small kids around is like brushing your teeth while eating Oreos.” I would go with “cleanish” for sure to describe my house. My biggest thing is the kitchen counters and sink – no matter how late it is, my goal is to never go to bed with dirty dishes in the sink! Waking up to a clean kitchen is a wonderful way to start the day.
How do you relax at the end of the day? I laughed when I first read this question, because I never quite know when “the end of the day” occurs…we lovingly refer to bedtime as “whack a mole” with three small kiddos, because usually as soon as one goes down, another one pops up! But once they are all asleep, Ben and I love to watch a variety of shows, and I like to online window shop for bargains!
What’s something your friends might not know about you? I love being social with friends and entertaining guests at our home, but I am a true introvert in that my energy comes from being alone – I am perfectly content not talking and being by myself for extended amounts of time. Especially during this season of life since quiet moments are so rare!
One word to sum me up: Inquisitive – I love to learn about EVERYTHING, which typically comes across as asking too many questions! Thankfully I always have Google. 🙂
