Can you believe summer is almost here? There is nothing better than summer in SWMO! We are fortunate to live in an area where there is always something fun going on. Here are a few of our favorite activities for May.
May 2: Springfield Ballet’s Peter Rabbit and Other Tales by Beatrix Potter
Last chance to see Beatrix Potter’s most beloved characters spring into life in this magical interpretation of Peter Rabbit and Other Tales. From Peter Rabbit’s mischievous escape from Mr. McGregor’s garden to Squirrel Nutkin’s adventures across Derwentwater, this ballet is perfect for the entire family.

May 5, 12, 19 & 26: Parties in the Park
Farmers Park will host the the Third Annual Parties at the park series! Enjoy yummy food and live music! Open Market highlights your Farmers Market of the Ozarks favorites alongside Farmers Park and community vendors.

May 6: Mother’s Day Mosaic Hot Plates
6 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Create a mosaic hot plate for the perfect Mother’s Day gift! This is a come and go event where students will be guided and supplies will be provided. This should take about 45 minutes to complete. Cost is $10.

May 7 & 8: Artfest
10 a.m. – 5/6 p.m.
The largest arts festival in Southwest Missouri – featuring 140 artists from all over the country, over 80 performances, delicious food from some of Springfield’s favorite restaurants and food vendors, and a kids hands. $5 tickets. Kids 5 and under are free. Purchased advanced tickets for $3 at McDonald’s locations in Springfield.

May 8: Mother’s Day with comedian Anita Renfroe

Celebrate Mother’s Day this year with lots of laughter! Nationally known Youtube comedian, Anita Renfroe, performing her painfully funny look at motherhood— live!

May 14: Kid’s Free Fishing Day, Roaring River State Park
Children age 15 and under will be able to pick up free trout tags at the hatchery office any time on the Friday before the event or all day on Saturday. A portion of the fishing area of the park will be reserved for youths age 15 and under. Volunteers will be on hand to help out. Children are encouraged to bring their own fishing equipment. Parents are welcome to help kids, but only one pole may be used between the helper and child. Adults are not allowed to fish by themselves. Free hotdogs, chips and soda will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Click here for more information.

May 20-June 5: Little Shop of Horrors, Springfield Little Theatre
A deviously delicious Broadway and Hollywood sci-fi smash musical, Little Shop Of Horrors has devoured the hearts of theatre goers for over 30 years! The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names “Audrey II” – after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it … BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!
